Do not cast me out from your presence or take away from me your Holy Spirit. Restore to me the joy of being saved (Psalm 51:11-12)

When you feel a certain emptiness, loneliness, boredom or indifference, do not ignore it. Hold onto it in expectation, not in sadness or despair. Do not struggle aganst it, do not try to dispel it. You are experiencing the absence of God. It is this absence that makes you say ‘there is no God’. You need to feel the emptiness of his absence so that he can fill you with the joy of his presence. Rest, go down to the centre of your being and ask God to fill that emptiness.

Jesus said: “I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete" (John 15:11)
